It should be straightforward, right? There is no reason why astronomy should be the privilege of only men or only women. All of us below believe in it. Just like we believe that astronomy has no colour, no age, no owner.
Unfortunately there are still people who think this is not the case and when public figures of astronomy like Sir Patrick Moore make degrading statements about women, we feel there is a need to remind the world that:
ASTRONOMY HAS NO GENDER
"I used to watch Doctor Who and Star Trek, but they went PC - making women commanders, that kind of thing. I stopped watching."
This is only one statement, and Sir Patrick is only one astronomer. There are others like him, less famous.
At the same time, there are people out there who work to acknowledge women's contribution to astronomy. Although it is telling that the list of female astronomers in history fits on a webpage, such sites should be publicised so please go and read about women astronomers and see for yourselves!
